The Transit and Parking Department wants you to be aware of the following information for the start of classes:

Obtain a Parking Permit — Most University of Arkansas students who will have a vehicle on campus have already secured a parking permit, but for those who haven't, you should do so as soon as possible. You can go to myparkingaccount.uark.edu to purchase a permit online.

Park in the Right Area — All drivers who park illegally run the risk of getting a parking citation. Make sure you know:

1. Which lots coincide with your permit type.
2. Where those lots are on campus.

Driving Isn't Always Best — Parking availability next to classroom buildings is extremely limited. Transit and Parking recommends that students on campus walk, ride a bike or scooter, or hop on a Razorback Transit bus to get to class. It is not only the most convenient option, but also the quickest, because once school begins, thousands of commuters will be driving to the university each day.

Completing a Commute — For those who commute, the most efficient way to get to class is to park in green parking lots (Lot 56 is a good option) or in Lot 99 (the orange economy lot) and then ride Razorback Transit to the heart of campus. You can also pay for metered parking in any of our parking garages.

Bus Information — For transit information, go to parking.uark.edu/transit-services or call 479 575-RIDE (7433). Razorback Transit also recommends its free app called PassioGO! which has real-time tracking of all buses as well as their routes, stop locations and approximate pickup times. You may go to passiogo.com or download the app on your smartphone.

• Route Change: Route 13 has changed to a shorter route with the primary purpose of serving Harmon Garage to Lot 56. Route 17 will continue to serve Dickson Street. Review all of our bus routes to make sure you know which bus to take.

Safe Ride — If you find yourself needing a ride to your residence after Razorback Transit operating hours, the university offers Safe Ride. Just call 479-575-SAFE (7233) and be prepared to show your student ID, and our drivers will give you a lift to the residence address listed on your UA Connect account. Safe Ride will begin operating on Aug. 21. More information is available on our Safe Ride website.

Expect Heavy Traffic — Commuters who have a garage permit are reminded that some parts of campus near parking garages may be very congested. There are times in which you can expect some delays and should plan accordingly.

Plan Ahead — For both commuting students and for students who live on campus, it is best to leave early to get to class or other appointments. Especially at the beginning of the fall semester, campus will be busy and full, so adjust your schedule to compensate for vehicle and pedestrian traffic.

Overnight Parking — There are certain parking lots on campus that do not allow overnight parking. Students, notably those who live in university residence halls, need to be aware of these lots. The lots that do not allow overnight parking are Lots 1, 46W, 46E, 47N and 56E. In addition, overnight parking is not allowed in the Meadow Street Parking Garage.

Football Games — Any vehicle parked in a green parking lot will need to be moved before home football games. Several faculty and staff lots will need to be cleared as well. Transit and Parking provides reminders of this via our @UARKServices Instagram and Facebook accounts, so follow those to make sure you don't forget. The first home game is Saturday, Sept. 9, when the Razorbacks host Kent State. To get ready for this game, lots will need to be vacated no later than 11:59 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 8. Other Athletic Events — Lots must also be vacated for men's and women's basketball. You can see the parking areas that need to be cleared for these events on the athletics section of our parking website.
